Grain Inspection, Inc. is accepting applications for self-motivated and reliable employees to sample grain for inspection. The best candidate(s) will have a satisfactory driving record.
The job often requires traveling to grain elevators with a company vehicle from our main office. A sampler will often handle 10' and 12' brass probes to collect samples from the tops of loaded hopper railcars that are stationary and sometimes from hopper railcars still connected to engine power. Each railcar sample can weigh up to 5lbs. Samplers will also gain experience walking atop railcars while wearing the proper PPE (sometimes while being harnessed in under a fall protection line) to close railcar lids (about 50 lbs each). Our seals are then applied after securely closing all the latches in the locked position on each railcar. Trains that we sample consist of 115 railcars on average (575 latches minimum). Some elevators can take as few as 6 hours to load a train, while other elevators can take between 12 - 24 hours. Samplers must be able to keep ACCURATE and LEGIBLE records on our tickets and will be responsible for sealing each railcar with the appropriate seal sequence written on that ticket.
Shift times are always subject to change at any time of day, especially before a scheduled train is anticipated to arrive at an elevator. Possible overnight and weekend shifts can be both expected and unexpected if you are on-call. A sampler must be able to occasionally work 12+ hour shifts on their feet, year round, outside in the elements, while atop hopper railcars or while inside where all grain samples are being handled for inspection. There is never a set weekly work schedule. You will receive a text every evening to tell you what time to be in the following morning.
Starting wage is $20.00 with obligatory sampling licenses to be obtained during a 2-month probationary period through hands-on worksheets and book work. Samplers can also enjoy incentivized raises for licenses and testing to help you grow within the company. GII covers 50% of healthcare from BCBS of ND and offers optional Aflac coverage at the employee's expense. GII also matches up to 3% into a Simple IRA and guarantees 40 hours per week.
Applications must be filled out in-person. Please stop by our office in New Salem and ask Danielle for an application during our 6am - 2pm office hours, text / call Travis, Rhett or Josh at 701-595-4304 or email your resume to nsgrain2@westriv.com.
